How to turn off your website for maintenance.

In the future, if your site is going to be down for an extended period of time, you may want to consider displaying a splash page on your site that basically says something like, "The Site is Down for Maintenance. Come back later." That page should return a 503 Service Unavailable HTTP status code instead of a 200 Ok regardless of which page on your site is requested during the time your site is down. This will tell the search engines and users that your site is down intentionally and to come back later.
