Natural Link Building - getting an authority on your website
To make your website an authority on a subject, is how to get top rankings. Make sure you have lots of
natural looking links coming to every page on your website. I have even put links to privacy pages
and single images. Keep your website uptodate. You can appear on top for old pages, providing you have enough
links coming in, but google is always looking for uptodate stuff, so make sure you make a change often, (minimum
once a month) then the search engines will come back more often and rank your pages higher because you have updated
info.
Before you start link building please make sure that all your html file names are going to stay the same. If you
do change them later, make sure you do a 301 redirect to let the search engines
know that you have moved the page permanently and to pass on credit.
Google are looking for natural links coming into a site. Your link building campaign should be organised but
spread over a long period.
Start your link building with just the url with no anchor texts, then add many links with various keywords, even non keywords. You should
link to all the different pages. I try and get 20% of the links to index and 80% to the rest.
You are better off adding a few links daily, than doing them all in one day.
You should use various anchor texts and no anchor texts, to make it look as natural as possible. i.e for this
website index page, i will try and get
20% of my links with the anchor text "website checklist"
then other links with various keywords (the more the better) Inexperienced seo guys don't do enough different
keywords
I try my best where possible to have at minimum, one link to each page of the site, I even link to the privacy
policy. I always try and link my site as evenly as possible, with the most links going to the home page, as this
looks more natural and makes your site look authoritative.
Make sure you test your site with the bad links checker, it
will even tell you if you have too high ratio of inbound blog links.
Make sure all your external links taking people away from your website, open in a new window, make sure each of
your links has a relevant title, but please do not use the same words in your title that's in your anchor text.
